Amblyopia Treatment
Amblyopia (commonly referred to as “lazy eye”) is a breakdown in how the brain and eye work together. When an eye sends a blurry or mismatched picture to the brain, the brain can start to ignore that eye. This weakens the connection between the eye and the brain.1
Lazy eye can affect your child for life. Treatment, and staying on treatment, is crucial.
- Without treatment, lazy eye can cause permanent vision loss2
- Lazy eye roughly doubles the lifetime risk of vision problems in both eyes3
- Reading and schoolwork can take longer1
- Hand-and-eye tasks like catching or handling small objects can be harder1
- Some career paths, like aviation, have vision requirements for each eye2
